I hope everybody is enjoying some holiday time off! Have a very merry Christmas and don’t forget to open your gifts from Greatfather Winter :D.
So the achievement farming bug finally hit me last night: I finished off Northrend Explorer achievement as well as the Zul’Drak and Howling Fjord quests for Loremaster Northrend. I am currently working on the Eastern Kingdom, Kalimdor being next. Questing also has the added bonus of giving a fair amount of faction reputation (not exalted with any of the cities yet).
The newer continents are nice because quest completion is broken down by zone, so you can see what you are missing. I wasn’t very mindful in regards to zone completion while I was leveling my paladin in late 2004/early 2005. Consequently, the quest hubs that I am missing are spread out all over the place. Grr.
Well okay, in truth? The only reason why I am bothering to do Loremaster is because of the tabard reward, which I think is possibly the most awesome tabard evar.
The Comcast disconnection issues were kind of a bummer this past weekend, because it affected quite a few people in my guild (as in, most of the healers). We kind of had an off-weekend with Friday out of the picture and the holidays coming up. We did however, manage to salvage Saturday evening.
If I don’t bother posting the rest of this week, have a happy and safe holidays all đŸ™‚
Gah, holiday, real life business, as well as a general posting apathy has set in lol. Anyway, we are back in the swing of things raiding wise: 10-man Naxxramas cleared, 10-man Obsidian Sanctum cleared, 25-man Spider Wing, Plague Wing and all but Thadius in the Construct Wing cleared.
Naxxrammas 25 isn’t all that different than Naxxramas 10, so far at least; Most of the fights are almost exactly the same barring a couple of differences (you need to mind control InstructorRazuvious ‘ understudies for example). Having extra people in the raid requires extra coordination on certain fights. It’s a fun instance that I never really had a chance to run at level 60.
Reputation: I am revered with the Sons of Hodir, The oracles and the Kalu’ak. I should hit exalted Hodir in a week, given that I don’t slack on any of the quests like I have been doing lately. I’m around 3 days from exalted Kalu’ak (I want my fishing pole and penguin quite badly). Almost done with the tabard reputations, save for the Kirin Tor.
Alting: Doombeard hit 71 over the weekend and even got some phat lootz from Utgarde Keep in our very first guild crap alt 5-man run! He is frustrating to level because he DPS’s really really slowly in comparison to my paladin.
The holiday season isn’t that far away. ’tis the season to achievement farm! The following quests are requirements for the Merrymaker achievement, which in itself is a requirement for the What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been achievement, which rewards you with a violet proto-drake!
The Winterveil events according to the in-game calendar will go live on December 15th and end on January 2nd. AFAIK. The presents will become available on the 25th (Christmas :P) and will last until the end of Winterveil.
I just pulled these off of the in-game achievement list. If they patch anything as they did with the Halloween event, I’ll update the list.

Opportunistic bastards can probably start farming small eggs for the sake of ripping off lazy people.
I have an urge to post about something that isn’t related to the World of Warcraft for once. *gasp!*
So: On combining basic weapon types to create even cooler weapons. The weapons are categorized according to their dominant property. For example, the Gunblade from Final Fantasy VIII is primarily an edged weapon and is thus categorized with the other edged weapons.
Energy weapons
Phasers, lasers and disruptors.
- Energy weapon + Edged weapon = Lightsaber (Star Wars).
A lightsaber is energy essentially, so it is categorized with the energy weapons. - Energy weapon + Crossbow = Wookie Bowcaster (Star Wars).
It’s a crossbow that shoots metal quarrels enveloped in energy. - Energy Weapon + Frisbee = The Tron throwing discs.
Guns and Rifles
Mostly chemical propellants (bullets), but I guess this category includes anything that shoots small objects at very high velocities (railguns for example).
- Gun + Chainsaw = Lancer (Gears of War)
It’s a gun with a chainsaw attached to the bottom. - Gun + Melee (?) = Cherry’s Leg (Grindhouse).
I guess? - Sniper Rifle + Transporter = TR-116 (Star Trek: DS9)
From the episode “Field of Fire.” Allows the wielder to see and shoot people through walls. - Teleporter + Gun = The Portal gun from Portal.
A gun that shoots portals. - Gun + Robot = Megatron.
…is a gun.
Miscellaneous Ranged
Bows, crossbows, miscellaneous things that are thrown.
- Frisbee + Edged weapon = Xena’s frisbee blade thing.
- Ranged + Gun = Auto repeating crossbows and needle guns.
Any of those miscellaneous junk throwers.
Edged Weapons
Swords, knives, polearms and anything that is generally pointy or sharp.
- Blade + Gun = Gunblade (Final Fantasy VIII).
You know, I always thought that this was kind of a dumb concept. - Blade + Chainsaw = Chainsaw swords (Fallout 3 for example)
- Blade + Energy Weapon = Power swords (Halo).
Categorized under edged weapons because they have physical forms. - Blade + Whip = Zabimaru, Renji’s zanpakuto from Bleach.
This weapon gets bonus points for transforming into a baboon-snake thing in bankai form.
Miscellaneous Melee Weapons
Whips, chainsaws, fists, crowbars…
- Whip + Knives = Ivy’s blade whip thing (Soul Caliber)
- Whip + Energy weapon = Ferengi Energy Whip (Star Trek)
- Fist + Edged Weapon = Wolverine’s Claws (and any fist blade sort of weapon)
- Chainsaw + Hand = Chainsaw Hand (Evil Dead)
Whenever a guild heroic group is formed the conversation goes something like this:
“Where do you all want to go?”
“I don’t know, what instances does everyone need?”
“What do you need from heroic <x>?”
…and then every single time I have to go to Wowhead to look up loot tables. Some of these are “I’m not sure but probably” items. I should make a separate list for Naxx and the craftables.

I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving. I have been “busy” with instancing and reputation grinding lol. I finally got my Red Drake mount last week! In theory it would have been better to focus on factions that give usable gear but I mean, it’s a bright red dragon. Who isn’t completely enamored with riding a dragon (drake whatever)!
I should get exalted Ebon Blade tonight after two daily turn-ins and then I can pick-up my DPS boots. I need to make a retribution reputation guide or something, the new faction quartermasters and dailies are spread out all over the place.
We are getting back into the swing of things guild activity wise: Held our first Wrath of the Lich King raid on Friday and Saturday in 10-man Naxxramas. The Military and Construct Quarters are down, we should get more down next week. It’s a fun instance, the fights from what I gather so far seem to be more coordination and timing based rather than out right gear checks (I didn’t doNaxxramas pre-BC).
So my paladin: We have a solid tanking line-up so I am sticking with retribution until there is a dire need for another tank. DPSing is fun and something that I have never really done seriously in a raiding environment. I was main healer at level 60 and main tank at level 70. I might as well complete thetrifecta of paladin specs and roles!
I rushed blacksmithing up to 440 through the weekend and last night so that I could craft my Spiked Titansteel Helm (Titansteel was expensive…). Though most of the ore was dropping in price by the time I had bought it, it would have dropped significantly more had I waited longer. Nevertheless, I have my helm nowyay! Time to work on enchanting now.
I bought the Tier-7 gloves with my heroic badges, got a nice DPS cape and DPS legs in 10-man Naxxramas as well as a few heroic goodies. My gear still needs lots of work. I need to:
- Smith the extra sockets: Socket Gloves, Socket Bracer and Eternal Belt Buckle.
- Properly gem myself. All but one of my gems are green; Originally I had socketted cheap gems because I didn’t want to spend 100g on piece of gear that I would upgrade the next day.
- Level enchanting so that I can chant my gear with non-crap chants.
- Get a meta gem cut for my new helm. I will add a meta gem page to my gem list later.
- Find a new-two hander because I am getting tired of beating mods to death with a glowing blue depiction of a troll’s head.
Oh, I did Wintergrasp last night. It’s fun, siege weapons are neat. I think I’ll try to do it more when the timer pops. It would be even more fun if I knew what I was supposed to do and where I was supposed to go instead of randomly hitting things and running around.
