Papers, Please Cheat Sheet

I photoshopped all of the regional information and important pages from the rule book for the sake of having a quick reference guide to keep open on the other screen while I am playing Papers, Please. I guess doing so is more or less cheaing in the true meaning of the term, but whatever. Too lazy to memorize the seals and cities and pulling up the rule book every single time is tedious even though ‘tedious’ is kind of a core theme of the game…

Oh and: Glory to Arstotzka.

Toy Day and What Not (ACNL)

I am glad that there are other people in this world who have spreadsheets and odd notes devoted to Animal Crossing and the like. It’s worth noting for future reference that the gift hints do reset when a villager moves in.

Villager Hint 1 Hint 2 Gift
Ava Orange Wallpaper Astro Wall
Baarbara Aqua Outfit Cloudy Tee
Cherry Yellow Toy Bingo Wheel
Chester Pink Furniture Lovely Table
Cousteau Yellow Wallpaper Cheese Wall
Freckles Black Instrument Upright Piano
Hans Pink Plant Plum Bonsai
Prince Brown Household Appliance Retro TV
Rudy Red Musical Instrument Electric Guitar
Tutu Red Plant Poinsettia

Thus far, Jingle is the only picture that I have :/. Sadly even with all of the hints documented, I still had to reset the game one time in order to achieve a perfect match for each villager. Mixed up Chester and Cousteau’s gift, whoops.

The frogs are pissed off at each other again (conflicting personalities, Prince is a lazy villager and Cousteau is a jock). I am pretty certain that Cousteau was dudebroing it up way too hard for Prince’s liking. We could also blame Hans…

Good riddance Hans and your creepy-ass stare. Please don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

The 2013 Steam Winter Sale

image_58

One of my personal mantras has always been, “just because you can does not mean that you should.” Just because you can you can light your groin on fire and dance in the streets, does not mean that you should: Within the scope of personal finance, specially say, Steam: Just because a game is on sale for dirt cheap on Steam, does not mean that you should buy it, as painful as it is for me to say. So this fall and Winter season so far has been fairly light in terms of gaming purchases.

It is always a bit of a gamble anyway when it comes to the holiday and summer sales in the sense that, unless a game is on sale for 75%+, there’s always a chance that it could go on sale for way more. So do you buy it now and risk it becoming the next Daily or Flash Sale or do you wait and risk it going up to full price? Such trying times. The haul this far:

  • Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons: TotalBiscuit and numerous other internet personalities raved about how exceptional this game was.
  • Super Hexagon: I don’t know anything about this game other than A. I heard that it was good, B. I know that’s it is a minimalistic action game or something, and C. It was under a buck.
  • Final Fantasy VIII: Teenage me absolutely loved this game to pieces back in the day, despite its gaping flaws. Adult me has a huge itch to play it again, even though I know it probably does not hold up to the test of time. It has been what, almost a decade and a half?
  • Papers, Please: A, “Dystopian Document Thriller”. I played this for about an hour last night and it is undoubtedly one of the most unique and thought provoking games that I have played in recent memory.
  • Left 4 Dead 2: Because it was free.

Not on steam but: Deus Ex The Fall (iOS) was 99 cents. Also picked up Battlefield 4 for $20 on Black Friday.

Animal Crossing New Leaf: House Tour

I am mildly obsessed with Animal Crossing New Leaf. Currently sitting at about 170.2k HHA points and working on expanding the rest of my house. The entry room contains the full exotic set as well as several other harmonious item sets. When I get around to building and expanding the right room on the first floor, I will probably turn it into a zen set + item set display room for the sake of decluttering the entry room

The second floor is reserved for seasonal furniture sets. I for the life of me cannot get the Ice Floor. So so so many snowflakes were gathered but alas, no dice

First floor left room with most of the modern wood set pieces. Haven’t quite decided what set I want to collect and display here yet. Actually, I love the cabana series but that’s a lot of medal farming…

My trophy room is located in the back room of the first floor. It is obviously influenced by Covet of Latte, the Nintendo SpotPass home that appeared in October. I will most likely move the bugs, both of which are December lucky items upstairs with the rest of the seasonal items and replace them with cafe set pieces as I obtain them from Brewster. Sadly as of yet, none of my villagers have graced me with the honor of possessing their pictures, despite running numerous errands. Y U NO LIKE ME? /sad.

Airsoft Helmet Version 2

A new ops-core replica helmet was purchased on Black Friday. I feel that several key points were achieved:

  1. The new helmet is a better fit to my head.
  2. The new helmet is in my preferred color, flat earth. So no more janky spraypaint jobs. Yay.

I removed the lower face pro straps from the swivel clips and sewed them onto the corner buckles, which are better positioned, look a bit cleaner, and are easier to take on and off. I am also possibly interested in purchasing lower profile eye protection (currently running with ESS Turbofans). So far, Smith Optics Boogie Regulators with the Ignitor Lens are at the top of my consideration list. I am however, concerned about fogging and face coverage so more research is required. The turbofans are huge, but fit flush with the top of my mesh lower mask, offering full face coverage.

Also, the GoPro NVG mount actually fits (with some minor filing) as in, I can actually snap it in and out of the mount with ease. I now have the camera mounted upsidedown, sitting just above my goggles instead of sticking up out over the top of my helmet. This makes it easier to maneuver through low branches and what not without having to worry about crap catching on the camera or it becoming a shiny shoot-me-beacon since it used to kind of stick up over whatever I was ducking behind for cover. It’s also closer to my actual point of view. My gun is now visible in the videos which is what I really wanted to achieve.

I just recently got around to migrating the bungee cording and accessories over from the old helmet and ran with it this past Sunday. The new GoPro mounting method resulted in better video IMO (ignoring the fact that I hadn’t cleaned the camera lense/housing in about a month…): Footage from the game.
