If you are running a system with more than sufficient memory, are absolutely positive that it isn't a hardware issue, yet your game is still crashing/save crashing out every 30 to 45 minutes, read this blog post and then download/run this tool. Just because it worked for me doesn't mean that it will work for you, so make sure to backup the executables before patching them just in case. I Sims 3 binged for a good portion of Sunday and did not crash out once.
Neither The Sims 3 forums nor the crash logs within The Sims 3 directory were all that useful. By the way, the "DasmX86Dll.dll not found" error message isn't all that relevant to the actual cause of the crashes (confirmed by SimGuru; It is a red herring). It's a file that was used as a part of the debugging process and was removed when the game went live. So it is more of a catch all than anything else.
I was actually pretty fortunate and never had a game crash problem until I installed the High-End Stuff Pack (I know that was totally a waste of cash but I needed my Sims crack fix). Apparently, one of the suspect causes of the crashing is the 2GB virtual memory limitation. The patcher will let you modify The Sims 3 executables to use more than 2GB of memory. Or something like that.
So yay, I can play this game once again without it shitting on me.

Hi there,
I have been experiencing crashes or an inability to save (error code 12 etc.) when my 2GB of DDR RAM gets filled up to like a 94-96% RAM usage on my computer.
I heard that this crash is caused by the fact that Sims 3 is a 32-bit software running on a 32-bit or 64-bit OS and is thus confined to just a 2GB memory usage. Crossing this line will cause a crash due to a lack of additional resources. Conversely, it can be caused by a lack of RAM (like mine) before it hits 2GB.
One thing that I am not so clear of is whether this 2GB of memory involves just virtual memory or physical RAM. My household which crashed was a super lot with a super big house with 5 storeys and 5 basements and a plethora of materialistic excesses like a private zoo and museum or even some masochistic endeavours like a private torture chamber and prison, and yet it only used only 1.35GB of physical RAM before it crashed (at 94-96% total RAM use. Includes ~20% for base system maintenance). Thus I was wondering what on earth would cause the right conditions for people to have Sims 3 above 2GB of physical RAM to cause the crash (a 64x64 sized super Saddam Hussein style palace?).
I suspect that it's just the virtual RAM, but could you please answer this question if you happen to know? Thank you.
Anyway, I'm deliberately getting my RAM upgraded either today or Wednesday to solve this issue. About time I upgraded my 3 year old 2GB RAM anyway.
I keep trying to do this fix but when I try to save it says cannot overwrite original file. Save under a different name?
What am I doing wrong.
I open CFF explorer
I click file
click computer
click on the HD
open program Files (x86)
Click on eletronic Arts
Open The Sims 2 World Adventures
Click Game
click bin
Click S3lanucher
then on left I click File header
then ""click here" on the right
Check the App can handle >2gb address space
then I click the save icon that is under the word settings
That is when it says this. "Cannot overwrite original file. Save under a different name?"
Make sure that you are opening "TS3EP01.exe" or "TS3EP02.exe"; That's the actual executable file that will load the game. The launcher just opens the pre-game updater etc.
Hope that helps!
I am opening the TS3EP02.exe, but it also says it cannot overwrite.
You have to run CFF explorer as administrator then it will let you overwrite the file. Thats how I got it to work.
Hi guys
Running Win 7 64 bits with 8Gb of memory this patcvhe dooesn't solve the crahs problem
Why would a Sims 2 game crash while playing, what do you have to do to fix the crashing?
If anyone's game is still crashing constantly, even after applying the memory fix, you may want to see if you can narrow down the cause. Are the crashes associated with any in game activity (saving, loading files, specific neighborhoods). If you have modified your game or are using custom content, it may be wise to try running the game without them to see if a bad file has been downloaded or something.
Other than that, I have no idea. The Sims games aren't known for their stability and crashing sucks :(
It WORKSSSSSSSSS WOOHOOO
Wonderful! Thank you very much! My game wasnt crashing but freezing up for a short period of time every minute or so! And this fixed it!
I have windows 7 64 bit will this work? I am so sick of logging into the game and when I go to do a action from sim to another sim it crashes my game.
IIRC, the large address aware fix was patched into the recent versions of the game. Here's more information
http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Sims_3:Large_Address_Aware
I tried fixing my game this way, but I can't overwrite the original file even though I am admin.
It won't let me overwrite the file even though I am admin :(
